West Indies name squad for Sri Lanka Tests

Cricket West Indies has confirmed a 15-member squad for its upcoming two match Test series against Sri Lanka, +with both fixtures scheduled to be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua between June 25 and July 7. The announcement comes as the team continues preparations for the closing stages of the current World Test Championship cycle.

The regional side will aim to use home conditions effectively as it seeks to end the cycle on a strong note. Beyond the Sri Lanka series, West Indies are also set to face Pakistan at home later in the year, followed by an away tour of Bangladesh for two Tests.

Leadership duties for the Sri Lanka series will rest with Roston Chase. The squad also sees the return of wicketkeeper batter Joshua Da Silva, who produced 996 runs across the last two seasons of the West Indies Championship, strengthening the batting options.

Amir Jangoo has also been recalled after a prolific domestic campaign, finishing second in run scoring this year and registering a double century. His selection marks a return to the Test setup since January 2025.

There is further reinforcement in the pace department with Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph both included after recovering from injuries that ruled them out of tours to India and New Zealand. The pair last appeared in a Test squad during the home series against Australia in 2025.

Head Coach Daren Sammy welcomed the challenge posed by Sri Lanka and emphasised the importance of consistency and discipline as the team develops its identity.

“Every Test series is an opportunity for us to grow as a team and strengthen our identity. Sri Lanka are a quality side, so we know we’ll have to be at our best, but we’re excited about the challenge ahead,” he said.

He added that commitment and resilience remain central to the group’s approach. “For us, it’s about playing with discipline, showing character when the game gets tough, and representing the West Indies with pride.”

Preparations have already begun with a high performance training camp in Antigua running from June 12 to June 22. Players involved in the recent white ball series in Jamaica joined on June 15. The programme focuses on technical refinement, fitness conditioning, match specific planning and team cohesion.

A four day warm up match will also feature a 13-man West Indies Select XI led by Tevin Imlach, facing Sri Lanka at the Coolidge Cricket Ground from June 18 to June 21. The first Test runs from June 25 to June 29, with the second scheduled from July 3 to July 7, both in Antigua.
