Their success was built in the opening phase of the competition, beginning on May 28 with an 8 wicket victory over hosts Ireland Women. That strong start was followed by a 25 run win against Pakistan Women the next day, placing the West Indies in control of the standings from the outset.

A setback came in their third match, when they narrowly lost to Ireland by one run under the Duckworth Lewis Stern method. However, their superior net run rate ensured they retained top position in the table despite the defeat. Rain then disrupted the closing stages of the series. The fourth fixture between the West Indies and Pakistan ended with no result, while the final match between Ireland and Pakistan was abandoned without play, leaving the standings unchanged.

Hayley Matthews and her team celebrate

Captain Hayley Matthews said the title reflected the squad’s preparation and adaptability. “We are pleased to have secured the series win, which was our primary goal coming to Ireland. Despite the narrow loss in one match, it does not define our performance. We used the tour to finalise our batting line ups and make the adjustments we needed. Posting our third highest total ever has given us real confidence heading into what promises to be a big World Cup.”

Head coach Shane Deitz praised the overall squad contribution and the opportunity to test combinations ahead of upcoming international challenges. “Over the four games, we played some strong cricket. We tried new options and combinations and most worked well. All fifteen players got valuable time in the middle and all fifteen looked in solid form. We are in a good place going into our warm up matches against India and Australia.”

Across the series, the West Indies showed consistent balance between bat and ball. Bowling contributions from Zaida James, Chinelle Henry, Jahzara Claxton, Qiana Joseph and Shawnisha helped restrict opponents, including limiting Ireland to 103 in 17 overs during the opening match. Against Pakistan, disciplined spells ensured control even when facing strong batting totals.

The batting unit also delivered key performances throughout the competition. Hayley Matthews scored 82 and 40, Jannillea Glasgow contributed 42 and 36, Stafanie Taylor added 39, while Chinelle Henry produced 33. These efforts highlighted increased depth in the lineup at a crucial stage of preparation.

The West Indies now continue their build up in Wales, where they will face India on June 8 and Australia on June 10 in warm up matches ahead of their opening T20 World Cup group match against New Zealand on June 13.
